Joanna Lilley, MA
Joanna is a source of calm in the stormy seas for young adults struggling with mental illness and addiction. Her client's levels of acuity and complexity vary, and there is no family that Joanna will not try to help. Most often, you will find her working with college-aged young adults who have a diagnosis that includes: neurodevelopmental disorders, psychotic disorders, bipolar disorder, depressive disorders, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorder, trauma, and substance use disorders. She specifically connects families to clinical and legal resources to help support their adult child during a stressful time. Joanna will not back down from assisting an adult client who is initially unwilling to engage in treatment. She will guide the family to be able to lovingly hold boundaries, and see them through the full continuum of care.
She holds a Master’s degree in Counseling from West Virginia University in Morgantown, WV and is a Nationally Certified Counselor. Before entering the consulting field she worked with struggling adolescents and young adults for over ten years. She guided off and on for six years with both state-run and private wilderness therapy programs. She coached students on academic probation at two institutions of higher education, as well as served on a university treatment team for students who deferred their suspension by opting into an in-house recovery program.
After working with so many struggling young adults, she made the professional leap to start supporting this population and their families in a consulting capacity. Her balance between being empathetic and caring yet direct and transparent is what allows her to easily connect with both the family and their young adult. She has been told time and again that her honesty and upfront demeanor is what has been most valued and appreciated.
